This photo was taken early in the morning while driving along Interstate 10 in August 2018, making my way from California to Dripping Springs, Texas. I had just retired after 47 years in an industry that shaped much of my adult life, and this journey marked the beginning of a brand new chapter. Austin, TX, wasn’t just any destination—it was where my father was born and raised, a place that somehow felt new and familiar as if it had been quietly waiting for me.

My best buddy, who lived in Dripping Springs—right next door to Austin—had opened his home to me, giving me a place to land and explore as I settled into this new life. With my car in tow and everything I owned packed behind me, the sun began to rise over the open road, casting a warm glow across the highway. At that moment, everything aligned—the road, the light, the quiet—and I felt a deep sense of peace and purpose. I grabbed my phone and quickly captured this scene, feeling like the Texas sky welcomed me and whispering, “Come on… you’re home.
